Beach Fire Reminder

Posted on June 11, 2025 at 3:38 PM by Stacie Thrush

Beach Fire Reminder from your Fripp Island Fire Department

With summer in full swing, the Fripp Island Fire Department would like to remind everyone that recreational fires are prohibited on public beaches per Beaufort County Ordinance. A recreational fire includes any small outdoor fire used for cooking, warmth, or pleasure.

According to the Beaufort County Ordinance (Chapter 90, Article III, Section 90-63, Subsection 18):

“Recreational fires shall be unlawful unless the fire official with jurisdiction issues a permit; no fires during turtle nesting season from May 1 to October 31. Permanent grills provided by county/municipalities are exempt.”

While the ordinance does allow for permits, Fripp Island Fire Department does not issue permits for fires on the public beach. In fact, it is the general practice across Beaufort County not to issue such permits for beach fires.

A recreational fire includes any small outdoor fire used for cooking, warmth, or pleasure.

We appreciate your cooperation in protecting our beaches and sea turtle habitat. We hope you have a safe and enjoyable summer, whether you are spending it here on Fripp or traveling!
